Popular Pins from Pinterest

Hi Everyone,

Shortly after starting this blog I created a Pinterest page with boards that inspire me.  I have a love for neutral décor, either French/Swedish/Belgian design and also farmhouse country like elegant shabby chic. Several of my DIY projects are centered around these design aesthetics which I  pin on my DIY board. I  also frequently repin DIY projects that are doable, interesting, creative and  am constantly amazed by all the talent out there and adore that  there is  now one site with just graphics  to share décor,  DIY and design.   I  spend many an hour in the evening perusing pinterest, infact it is probably my most preferred social media.  So the other evening after the girls were in bed I pulled up my analytics to determine the most popular pins on my pinterest  page  over  the past ten or so months and thought I might share with you.

The number one most repinned  graphic at 589 repins and still counting  is this adorable DIY Mason Jar Snow Globe via honeycomb creative co.  I can certainly see why this is so popular~it's easy, inexpensive and well adorable.  A perfect gift for the kiddos to make for their friends  or just a sweet decoration to make for the holidays for your home.

Gift Ideas for the the Hostess

Hi Everyone,

Will you be traveling over Thanksgiving this year?  I think we might.  We live a few states removed from family and although most years a few of us gather here in the Midwest, I think this year we might gather at a different venue.  Honestly, I am not much of a cook so that suits me just fine.  Don't get me wrong  though, I love to help, but when I am in-charge who knows how the meal will turn out.
Creating, sewing, painting {not cooking:)} are some  things I love to do in my spare time, so I put together this little gift idea for the hostess and a couple of extras for some of my favorite people.
It is a super simple gift idea,  a hand-crafted guest bath towel with a locally made  hand soap and one of  my favorite scented candles {all with those lovely spicy fall aromas}.

Below is a close-up of the cotton towels with embroidered detail.  I sewed ruffles and lace for a soft  detail on the bottom of each and completed the project by sewing around the edges with a feather stitch.  I threw these all in the wash after I had completed to remove my pencil marks and thankfully the cotton and stitching remained in perfect condition.

Unfortunately my sewing machine cannot monogram so I hand applied the letters with white 6 thread floss and stamped "happy fall" with permanent black ink.

So maybe you decide this year to make a quick project for the hostess or maybe you are hosting and would like some festive details in your home.  Maybe you create an item or two for your guests and family.

Happy Creating and Happy Fall

SK

Fall At the Table

Hello,

On one of those rainy days last week I pulled out our fall table décor.  This centerpiece has been with us for several years now. I  figure if it works don't fix it, right.  I love the color rust.  I reminds me so much of  Fall, the changing  colors of the leaves and the sudden change in temperature, call it nesting.  The wrought iron pumpkins are clearance sale purchase from Pottery Barn several years ago, along with the Leaves and Acorns. This year though I added a couple of these pumpkins in a basket neglected in the storage closet.  Thankfully I have not thrown away or taken my baskets to Goodwill.  Funny  how trends come and go, I definitely feel that way about baskets. I Love the fact they are back with a vengeance.

All my girls were in school, so I had a little extra time to play around with a table setting or two.  The first table setting is a little more feminine and delicate.  I would say leaning  a little shabby chic.  The placemats I sewed a few weeks ago and I think add a nice touch to my fall tablescape. The lighting was harsh, so sorry for the unclear images.

The next table setting I used placemats I purchased several years as well. They are a little more modern in feel, no pretty details or trim. They work I think because, the general color scheme is consistent, although they are not "fallish" in design. I purchased these placemats from World Market.

Here is a close-up of the napkin holder. Isn't is cute!

So curious, which tablesetting do you all prefer? Do tell please.
Thanks for reading my friends and visit my Fall Pinterest Board for much more inspiration.

XOXO,

Fall Decorating and a Linen Pumpkin Project

Hello All,

This week was great, you know the kind of week where you get much accomplished.  There were a couple of rainy days, days that kept my youngest and myself indoors.  A perfect opportunity to take out a few fall decorations and finish up the Halloween decor.  Admittedly,  I don't decorate much for the  fall or Halloween since  I  am not a big fan of taking it all down once the season is done to put more decorations out for Christmas.  I continue to see so many wonderful fall/Halloween vignettes on lovely blogs  and wish I had the energy to compile my own.
So the  pictures below basically sums up  my fall decorating with a fall / halloween vignette  in our foyer and a simple table setting for a casual or Thanksgiving dinner {in my next post}.  Of course, I could not finish up this week without a small craft project with linen scraps perfect for my small, fall vignette.
Personally I like the idea of combining Fall Decorating with Halloween.  The lamps are draped with cotton Spider Webs and a couple of white pumpkins with acorns are perched on glass candlestick holders.  The  fabric pumpkin to the right was a quick craft project I sewed and glued to add to the vignette.  Also see the Halloween mantel for a little more Halloween/fall decorating inspiration.

On the right of the vignette is my craft project I completed this week. I love all the fabric pumpkin projects I see all over pinterest and recently noticed Pottery Barn displaying their fabric/burlap pumpkin. The use of linen/burlap or velvet on pumpkins adds a great texture and interest, so fitting for a modern rustic home.

Here is the step-by-step tutorial~

1.) glue gun for attaching the ruffles to the pumpkin.  I used mod podge to attach the linen strips to the orange pumpkin.
2.)cotton for embellishment
3.)small plastic pumpkin
4.)linen.  I used two different types of linen~ one with a little more texture.

I roughly cut out strips with left over fabric remnants from previous projects.  See these here and here.

After the strips are glued to the pumpkin hot glue the ruffles to the base. Below are the dimensions I used for the slub linen and also tips on gathering fabric.
Below is the completed pumpkin with some pretty frilly details.

Another fun fabric project with the use of linen, perfect for fall.
Thanks for reading and have a lovely fall weekend!
