Guest Bedroom Projects

Hi Everyone,

We use this room as a guest bedroom in our home, although, I think it was intended to be an exercise room or craft room by the builder.  Admittedly, I have struggled to decorate this space over the past couple of years, I think because of the size and we tend to put toys in here for the girls.  I will spare you the pink clutter and just show the bed for now.  Of course, there are several DIY projects here.  The most recent being the pillows on the bed.   The end tables I purchased about 15 years ago from a consignment store and really haven't done much with them.  I guess I just like them the way they are, for now, at least.  The pictures on the left are prints I took from an old Modern History book.  The colors in the prints were perfect for the room and well, inexpensive.  So here are a few pics for you.  Maybe you will take away a few ideas for your home. 









A closeup of the DIY Prints and the pillows



This summer we picked up from the beach a fun memento, driftwood, which I hang above the bed. It adds to the modern rustic feel in the room, I think.



Here is a closeup of the pillows on the bed with a pretty decorative stitch around the perimeter. I love the shades of green in the thread~I think it pulls in all the shades of green around the room.

Little Sister's Big Girl Bedroom Reveal

Hi everyone,

 I hope your week has been great! Once again I spent the week putting the finishing touches on Jordan's room. I can now say it is finally done.... thankfully.  This makeover was relatively budget friendly, exception being the purchase of the frame and mattress.
Jordan loves her new room, especially one of her favorite dresses, now to small for her, but is used as an accessory on the wall.  I toyed with the idea of framing it, but knew it would compete with the windows above.

 

I just finished completing these panels, with a blue/gray linen fabric purchased from Joanns' with a 40% off coupon.  The wing upholstered chair, my toughest DIY  to date,  is nestled in a corner, with a linen pillow I pulled together a few weeks ago.  The quilt, her grandmother sewed several years ago and I can't quite depart with.  The art work I completed a few days ago, too.

 



The dresser was previously in her other room, I just painted a mirror I had on hand and added a little fluff.

 

I purchased all the bedding at target in the shabby chic section.  I love the trendy fabric with the traditional shabby chic!

A wooden artwork I stenciled with gray and yellow oil paint.  Her birth date is stenciled in the corner and difficult to read.   I couldn't find the right angle to photograph.

 The artwork I painted using left over paint and I used chalkboard paint underneath.  I know to some it may look undone, but I kind of like the less formal straight line look. 

 

So there it is...the finished bedroom.  Now to tackle the MESS behind that door!

DIY Upholstered Wing Chair

Hi Everyone,

I recently walked through a thrift/secondhand store looking for treasures for my daughters big girl room and saw these wing chairs sitting in a corner, obviously in the store for quite some time, since they had been marked down several times.  The chairs were in pretty good condition, except for the fabric which has been completely worn through.  The chair was hand crafted and made of solid wood.  So I picked it up and thought why not I can reupholster this chair and give it a completely custom look.

I pulled all the yucky fabric off, tacks and all, probably the worst part of the job for me...it really was so dirty!

Now came the job of putting it all back together.  I took photos of each step when pulling off the fabric, so I could reassemble in the correct order and saved the dirty fabric for templates.

I ripped off the back first, so I knew this would be the last piece to assemble

I threw away all the old batting and replaced with new.  This is a view of the side of the chair.

So I started with the arm of the chair, wrapping batting around and pulling the fabric over the arm and tucking it under completely concealing the staples.  I used a combination of upholstery tacks, staples and also hot glue.

Saved all the pieces and used as a template

I added piping by stapling separately around the wing and also the back piece and pulling the fabric tightly around all the batting.

For the finishing touch I added the trim with hot glue and a nailhead detail. So here is the finished product and I would have to say it is a comfy chair with all my favorite fabrics, colors and details.

Honestly, I would have to say this was not my favorite decor project, super yucky for one and quite time consuming.  I will have to say though, it was interesting taking it apart and understanding the process of putting it all back together again.  So I hope this inspires you all to reupholster a chair with good bones that just needs a little TLC.

Over the weekend Dad and the girls had a little snow fun!  They built a huge fort to protect the girlies from Dads wicked aim with the snow balls and also the biggest snow man ever!
